The HKR Mission

That we will someday live in a true, global COMMUNITY.

A community where people listen to understand, rather than respond. Where people lead with empathy and compassion, as opposed to Fear.

The HKR mission is to cultivate a community that values connection over division, in which less people will feel isolated, lonely, and prone to self-harm or harm of others.

So many of us are lacking true connection in our lives.

In an age where technology is designed and constantly re-designed to connect us with friends and family near and far, we have trouble actively connecting with those right in front of us. We look at each other but don't see. We hear, but don't listen. We are disconnected from others, and from ourselves.

When I moved from California to New York in 2015 to pursue theatre, I had no idea that acting school would bestow the greatest gifts imaginable: the capacity to Love and empathize with not just the protagonists in the stories I told onstage, but (maybe even more importantly) the antagonists as well. I gained the ability to peel the layers from any unpleasant or downright ugly act to reveal the (very human) motivation at the root; not to condone it, but rather to understand it. By understanding the motivations for another's actions, we begin to see our similarities and fixate less on our differences. With empathy, we feel seen and can start to build genuine connection.

In November 2016, we saw a giant shift in national politics and with that, an onslaught of hate, division, and isolation. This was a defining moment for me. It became my mission and life's purpose to reverse that trajectory to one of Love and authentic connection.

Shall we Rise together?

“There simply is no pill that can replace human connection. There is no pharmacy that can fill the need for compassionate interaction with others.

The answer to human suffering is both within us and between us.”
